In 2012, I began my journey in a new city, full of hope. I spent four years studying History at one of Turkey’s top universities, known for its distinguished academic staff. During my time there, I learned more than just dates of battles or who invented money. I developed the skills needed to be a researcher and a scholar. Instead of relying on simple facts I could find on Google, I learned how to evaluate valuable sources and conduct thorough research—skills that will guide me throughout my life. And yes, I also picked up some cool trivia to impress my friends when we visit museums!

If you’re not working in the field you studied, why not study the field you’re passionate about? That’s exactly the question I asked myself before starting this master’s program, which I’ve been enjoying every step of the way. When I saw the Visual Communication and Digital Media program was open, I applied right away because these were precisely the areas I wanted to focus on in recent years. After completing eye-opening courses, from brand identity to communication philosophy, I worked with the most wonderful advisor to gift the academic world my thesis titled ‘The Influence of Ottoman Calligraphy on Modern Republic Typography.’ Is a PhD next? Who knows?!”
